It is the mission of Madeley Primary School to ensure excellence for every student, empowering their academic, physical, social and emotional development.
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
Welcome back to the final term for 2025. We have an exciting array of activities planned for this term including the Madeley Cup, Remembrance Day, student leadership speeches and selections, excursions, Madeley’s Got Talent, end of year reports and of course our Year 6 Graduation. We look forward to a fun and productive final term for the year.
2026 Student Leaders
It is that time of year again when our Year 5 students begin to process of nominating for leadership roles and preparing their speeches. Mrs Clark will be speaking with the Year 5’s today regarding the expectations for each leadership role, and students will be receiving their Nomination Forms. We ask that parents discuss the importance and responsibilities of each role, ensuring students understand they are electing to be a leader for the full year, outlining all that the role entails as outlined on the nomination forms. Parents are required to approve and sign their child’s nomination forms prior to students returning them to school.
Nominations are due 10th Nov and to be placed in the tray in the front office.
Speeches will be held on the 17th and 18th .These are to be 2-3 minutes long.
Interschool Cross Country
Congratulations to the Interschool Cross Country team for coming 4th against 8 schools on Monday this week, only 2 points behind 3rd. The students all displayed outstanding sportsmanship and tried their very best, representing Madeley PS so well. Also a big thank you to Mr Taddei for all the additional work he put in training the team and organizing our students for the event.
Madeley’s Got Talent
MGT will be held on 10th December. Students should be busy planning and rehearsing their acts, as auditions will be held on the 21st November. Registration Forms are due by 14th November.
Attendance
Successful student learning is linked to regular attendance. Regular attendance is essential to make sure learning is not disrupted. Regular learning provides valuable building blocks for the future. It is important that you establish regular patterns of school attendance for your child as early as possible. Please ensure that if your child is absent, you inform the school via our email madeley.ps.attendance@education.wa.edu.au, outlining the reason for your child’s absence.
Unexplained absence notices will be sent home in cases where the school hasn’t been informed of a student’s absence. Please ensure you reply with the reason for your child’s previous unexplained absenteeism as soon as possible.
Madeley PS Dress Code
Madeley Primary School has a community endorsed dress code that, in accordance with the School Education Act of 1999, ALL students are to conform with unless otherwise directed. The cooperation of parents is sought in setting and maintaining a high standard of dress, appearance and cleanliness from their child by ensuring that they conform to the Dress Code. The Dress Code also promotes a positive image of the school by ensuring a high standard of presentation.
Navy shorts, leggings, skorts or skirts are to be worn with the Madeley PS shirt, jumper, jacket and hat.
Other general requirements are:
Clothing which has advertising or denim is not permitted.
Make-up, false nails, nail polish and jewellery are not appropriate.
Single plain studs or sleepers may be worn in the earlobes.
Long hair should be tied back for health and safety reasons.
Thongs, slides, backless sandals and other forms of open footwear must not be worn.
A school bucket/broad-brimmed hat must be worn whenever working or playing outside.
1-to-1 Program Parent Session
2026 will see the 1-to-1 program running for students in Years 5 and 6 only. A parent information session will be held on 17th November at 3.30pm in the school library, for any parents wishing to obtain further information regarding this program.
Planning for 2026
We are in the process of planning classes and classroom structures for next year. If your child will be leaving Madeley Primary by the end of 2025, please advise the school office as soon as possible by emailing madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au or 9306 6900.
Student enrolments determine what our staffing allocation will be, so we need to be accurate in our planning. This term we will begin planning classes for 2026. Considerations for how classes are formed include:
structures based on enrolment numbers per year level and recommended class sizes. Classes are then constructed to maintain a gender balance and an even distribution of student needs/abilities in each class.
We aim to maintain at least one friendship for each child.
Composite classes are an inevitability, of which we have no control. Students are not disadvantaged by such arrangements. The same class selection approach is taken in these classes as with all others. We do try our best to avoid repeated years in composite classes, where possible.
The process we use:
A draft class structure is created based on student enrolment numbers.
Staff meet to discuss and allocate students to draft classes, consideration is given to:
Student academic needs
Student behavioural needs
Student social needs
Gender balance
Previous placement in composite class
Parent requests, based on specific educational need
Admin review draft classes and meet with staff to clarify, modify, confirm classes.
Staff meet to discuss final placements (this may involve multiple meetings)
Classes will be displayed for parents. This information is posted on Friday 30th Jan 2026 as there is often a review of class structures when staff return in the new year and a restructure of classes could take place.
Requests related to class placement
If there is a matter, relating to your child’s specific learning needs, that you would like the school leadership team to consider in relation to classroom placements, you may submit a request in writing. Please note that we do not take requests for particular classroom teachers, nor for classroom makeup (ie split classes). I would like to assure all families that we go to great lengths to structure classes to meet the needs of every student. This is a complex process that is given a great deal of time and effort. Submissions should be emailed to Libby Clark (elizabeth.clark2@education.wa.edu.au) before the end of Week 6 – Friday, 21st November. Requests received after this time will not be considered.
Open Board Meeting
Our next Board meeting is an open board meeting whereby any parents who are not board members are welcome to join us. It is held in the staffroom at 5:30pm on Wednesday 3rd December.
Madeley Primary School Board Vacancies
Parents are invited to nominate for a position on the Madeley Primary School Board. The position is for a period of three years commencing in 2026.
The board of a public school works with the school community to achieve the best outcomes for students. Nominations are open to all parents/carers of Madeley PS students. Please see a notice coming out today for information on how to nominate.
I am excited to be joining the Madeley Community and thank you all for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to meeting you all at some time soon.

Dog Policy
🐾 A Friendly Reminder for Our Dog-Walking Families
We love seeing so many of our families walking to school — it’s a wonderful way to start the day, helps reduce parking congestion, and promotes a healthy lifestyle for everyone!
For those who walk with their dogs, please remember that dogs are not permitted on school grounds at any time, for the safety and comfort of all students. We also ask that you:
Avoid waiting with your dog near gate entrances or on busy pathways where many children pass by.
Do not tie dogs to school fences or gates, as this can cause anxiety for both students and pets.
Thank you for helping us keep our school environment safe and welcoming for all children. Your cooperation and care are greatly appreciated!
MLA1 Bushland Adventure
MLA1 went out to our newly adopted bushland to look for animal tracks. Students used these as prompts for their writing, studying which way the animals were travelling and creating adventures for each one.
This linked beautifully with Science Week and the theme “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature's hidden language.” Students explored how animal tracks are used and understood by First Nations people and their importance in hunting and storytelling.
As part of our Science Week fun, students also made their own tracks using cornflour, cocoa powder, plastic animals, and natural materials. They loved creating their own adventures from the tracks they made.
The students had an absolute ball!

Young people may feel depressed for all sorts of reasons and their moods may vary, from feeling a bit blue to feeling overwhelming sadness and hopelessness. Some may even feel suicidal. Depression often goes undiagnosed in adolescents but with the right treatment, it can be managed very well.
As a parent, it is important to remember that stresses that sound minor to adults may be very important to teenagers and should be taken seriously.
Depression may be triggered by a major stressful event, such as a death or broken relationship. Sometimes there may be no obvious cause. Although it is often difficult to communicate with someone who is feeling low, it is important not to ignore a young person’s feelings. Knowing that family and friends care and are willing to give support can be the first vital step to getting better.
If at any time you are worried about your mental health or the mental health of a loved one, call Lifeline 13 11 14.
